Northern League: De Vere Wychwood Park (near Crewe)

Jorvik (4) vs. Spirit of Atticus (6) 2.5-3.5
Holmes Chapel (4) vs. Bradford DCA Knights A (6) 3-3
Cheddleton 2 (4) vs. Manchester Manticores (0) 4-2
Aigburth (0) vs. Bradford DCA Knights B (0) 2.5-3.5
Cheddleton 2 v Manchester finished 3.5 - 2.5 not as shown on the 4NCL website (and our board 1 was different as well)

I was last to finish (again) after nearly 6 hours (again) trying to win from a lost position (again) and drawing by repetition (again)

Of the 4 board 1 games, 3 of the highest rated players lost (Hague, Carleton, Shaw) and 1 drew (Williamson) which shows the league is more competitive than it looks at a glance

Is anyone slightly surprised that the results are up on the 4NCL website, but not the tables? I would have thought the system would involve adding the results, and the tables would then update from the results? Or are the results sometimes too complicated, and separate updates are needed? Looking at individual results (well, technically, looking for games where grandmasters were scalped), I see Bates beat Arkell in round 4 and Sowray beat Ward and Dearing beat McNab (also in round 4). Trent beat Arkell and Rogers beat Speelman and Zakarian beat McNab in round 3. McNab and Arkell both got 0/2! Any other notable individual upsets from that weekend?

I imagine that that tables are manually created.

For the leagues that use my software, the tables are generated dynamically from the individual match results along with the players individual results and (just for fun!) rating calculations. Any penalties are also taken into account.

This software could be integrated into the 4NCL site should 4NCL feel this was a desirable enhancement.

It might be that the extra work of doing it manually is something to be enjoyed?

Thanks, Lawrence. Three rounds to go (in divisions 1 and 2) before the division into championship/promotion and relegation pools. Might be too early to speculate about that, but looking at the fixtures still to come might give some hints.

After four matches, we're looking almost certain to be in the promotion pool, but three of our four wins so far have been against King's Head, 3Cs and Sambuca Black Sheep, who are currently the bottom three teams in our pool. So we'll need to get good results in the next three matches to carry forward enough points to keep the promotion momentum going.

My imagination was evidence based : the tables were not updated. What is the explanation?

It wasn't evidence based, it was observation based.

You correctly observed the problem of missing tables. You misinterpreted this as evidence to come to a conclusion that such tables do not exist.

I remember seeing tables which had been printed from a printer, complete after some of this weekend's chess; I forget if it was round 3 or 4. So an updated form of the tables exists in the software. After that, I went home; I can only guess that there is a software error in getting the tables from the software to the Internet. I don't know why this is, but it might be worth e-mailing Neville or David T, rather than raising it here. :)
