Glenn Flear's part in the founding of the 4NCL

Post by John Saunders » Tue Mar 30, 2010 4:26 pm

Glenn Flear wrote an excellent article in the March 1990 issue of BCM which arguably set in train the foundation of the 4NCL.

I've just posted it on the BCM website...

(n.b. please do not cut and paste the article from there into this forum - thank you)

Glenn had experience of the French League and was advocating something similar to be implemented in the UK. His article shows great perspicacity and common sense. His proposed league shows some remarkable similarities to the 4NCL as implemented more than three years after his article was published so I guess he deserves at least some of the credit for the league getting off the ground in the first place. The first 4NCL matches were played on 2 October 1993. I believe Chris Dunworth and Gary Kenworthy were the major players in getting the league underway, though I imagine a good few others were instrumental too. Well done to all of them.
