I seem to remember that the hot drinks prices were such, that you had to go to Starbucks for a cheaper coffee. (It was the nearest provider of coffee.)

One of my memories at the hotel was players answering their mobiles during the game. That does seem a long time ago now!Kevin Thurlow wrote: ↑Tue Mar 08, 2022 1:20 pmI seem to remember that the hot drinks prices were such, that you had to go to Starbucks for a cheaper coffee. Yes - I recall drawing the attention of an arbiter to someone furtively talking on the phone during a game and he wasn't interested at all.

Which was the hotel that appeared to be isolated in an area resembling a post apocalyptic landscape?
The car parking was really rather peculiar also.

My recollection of that area is that there were police signs on the lampposts warning you that if you left your car parked on the road overnight you shouldn't be surprised if it got broken into.LawrenceCooper wrote: ↑Wed Mar 09, 2022 9:10 am"the majestic setting of the Paragon Hotel, Digbeth"?John Upham wrote: ↑Wed Mar 09, 2022 12:07 amWhich was the hotel that appeared to be isolated in an area resembling a post apocalyptic landscape?

Re: Birmingham Grand Hotel
The Paragon Hotel appears to have become the OYO Rowton (not Rowson) Hotel.
