Gonzaga certainly up against it v Manx, I struggle to remember them playing even any of the teams between third and tenth! Quite a few surprising pairings still to come, I expect.

In so far as people do still write about 4NCL, then Peter Roberson's game - and finish - against Parligras would have been the standout moment of yesterday's play (round seven), along with the topsy turvy drama in the top match (did Nick Pert lose on time?). But in a game hidden down the table, I hope that Cassie Graham's bold win over Yichen Han will also receive attention.

This might be Loz's first derby, so let's tease with him with that historic round eight memory while we can :P
In the Junior 4NCL I can recall my second team upsetting my first and third upsetting first etc I'm certainly taking nothing for granted today and am expecting an uncomfortable ride. I suspect that the first team have used up all their luck for the weekend in their great escape yesterday too.

The game score for Pert-Haria is almost certainly wrong. I doubt White put his Queen en prise on move 39 and Black then didn't take it, or a Rook en prise at move 43 which Black also didn't take. A loss on time at move 43 seems unlikely when Black would have got an extra 50 minutes playing time only 3 moves earlier.

I have reported this on the 4NCL arbiters Zulip stream.

Edit: It is being fixed.

No favours being shown by the second team so far, they are even OK on the boards where Wood Green have been forging their title bid (boards seven and eight)

It has now been corrected at https://www.4ncl.co.uk/replay/2122/otb/div1-2.htm.

It seems that Pert did put his Queen on prise at move 39. but Haria did take it and Pert immediately resigned.

Ian, thank you for pointing this out.

While waiting for Jonathan’s full review, we can see that Wood Green did indeed lose to their Youth team, so have been overtaken by Manx Liberty, who won all 3 of their matches. It’s still all to play for in theory, although it looks as if all of the leading teams have played each other, so there will be some big down floats, and potentially one-sided matches, on the final weekend.

National train strike on 21st, 23rd and more importantly for 4NCL players, 25th June.

I dont suppose the trains will be too much of an issue for players, they are so unreliable on the weekend in normal times that it is a huge gamble to use them and one that will invariably end in a taxi bill for hundreds of pounds when you get trapped on sunday evening after an especially long game
Lose one queen and it is a disaster, Lose 1000 queens and it is just a statistic.

I'll tell that to my players who rely on them.

I travelled by train to Leamington Spa a few times for 4NCL and the only time I needed a taxi was when it was pouring with rain. And it only cost me £7, I guess I was very lucky.

I have to admit there was one occasion when the train was a) rammed and b) very late, but still I consider Joey's post something of an exaggeration.

That certainly compares favourably to Daventry where it's £20+ on Friday & Saturday and £40 on Sundays.
