Re: Division 3 South 2021-22
A venue change would be ok, but a change of weekend would cause problems. For it to be 3 rounds, I guess that would leave the June Friday bank holiday only - which clashes with 2 congresses and the Oxford Megafinal.

Another solution would be a shorter time control combined with an earlier start on the Saturday and two rounds that day.Nick Burrows wrote: ↑Sat Apr 02, 2022 5:12 pmFor it to be 3 rounds, I guess that would leave the June Friday bank holiday only

How can this go unnoticed for about 11 months? Lots of people, presumably, booking rooms at Kents Hill Park when there's no event taking place there and no-one booking rooms at the Holiday Inn, Maidenhead when there is.LawrenceCooper wrote: ↑Sat Apr 02, 2022 4:12 pmCaptains have now received the following communication from the 4NCL:
"There’s been a cock-up with the Div 3 South May bank holiday weekend venue arrangements. We had been told that Div 3 South would be at Kents Hill Milton Keynes; we’ve now learned that the booking was actually made at Holiday Inn Maidenhead/Windsor

Maybe because players tend to book through Bridge Overseas/Guaranteed Events?Ian Thompson wrote: ↑Sat Apr 02, 2022 7:41 pmHow can this go unnoticed for about 11 months? So how could they, or the venues, not have noticed something was amiss?LawrenceCooper wrote: ↑Sat Apr 02, 2022 8:35 pmMaybe because players tend to book through Bridge Overseas/Guaranteed Events?Ian Thompson wrote: ↑Sat Apr 02, 2022 7:41 pmHow can this go unnoticed for about 11 months? I would much rather maintain the same time control throughout the competiton with either one or two further 2-day weekends.Roger de Coverly wrote: ↑Sat Apr 02, 2022 7:32 pmAnother solution would be a shorter time control combined with an earlier start on the Saturday and two rounds that day.Nick Burrows wrote: ↑Sat Apr 02, 2022 5:12 pmFor it to be 3 rounds, I guess that would leave the June Friday bank holiday only
Amusing that the company is called "Guaranteed Events"!

Re: Division 3 South 2021-22
It may be more realistic to find a venue for June and two rounds taking the total number of rounds to 8. Not perfect but not a disaster unless there are norms at stake.Nick Burrows wrote: ↑Sun Apr 03, 2022 9:14 amI would much rather maintain the same time control throughout the competiton with either one or two further 2-day weekends.Roger de Coverly wrote: ↑Sat Apr 02, 2022 7:32 pmAnother solution would be a shorter time control combined with an earlier start on the Saturday and two rounds that day.Nick Burrows wrote: ↑Sat Apr 02, 2022 5:12 pmFor it to be 3 rounds, I guess that would leave the June Friday bank holiday only

Re: Division 3 South 2021-22
From Mike Truran today:
A quick update:
We’ve been unable to find a 30 April–2 May weekend replacement for Maidenhead (or Kents Hill, as we were originally told ☹). So please assume that we won’t be going ahead with Div 3 South on that weekend.
We’re currently trying to confirm a weekend at Woodland Grange for either the Jubilee weekend (2-5 June) or 18-19 June (the week before the rescheduled Div 1/2 weekend on 25-26 June). If the latter, we’ll consult with the Div 3 South captains as to whether they would prefer two rounds or three rounds (probably at 4NCL congress time limits).
I can only apologise for all this. It seems that finding a venue at this short notice is proving highly problematic, particular when so many people are holidaying in the UK rather than travelling abroad, rearranged weddings are taking place etc.
I’ll report back as soon as I have some news.
Kind regards
Mike

Confirmation of the non-availability of the Holiday Inn Maidenhead.

So Woodland Grange is not big enough to accommodate Divisions 3C and 3S at the same time over the May Bank holiday weekend?LawrenceCooper wrote: ↑Sat Apr 16, 2022 3:25 pmFrom Mike Truran today:

Re: Division 3 South 2021-22
That appears to be their conclusion. Division 3 Central was a comfortable fit when I was there in November. I suspect that 3c & 3s would be quite a squeeze albeit probably not as much as the Kent Hills Park venue in November when we were all packed into one room!Ian Thompson wrote: ↑Tue Apr 19, 2022 10:42 amSo Woodland Grange is not big enough to accommodate Divisions 3C and 3S at the same time over the May Bank holiday weekend?LawrenceCooper wrote: ↑Sat Apr 16, 2022 3:25 pmFrom Mike Truran today:

Re: Division 3 South 2021-22
Update from Mike Truran:
OK…… We’ve managed to secure Kent’s Hill Park Milton Keynes again for the rescheduled Division 3 South weekend - not entirely ideal in some respects, but at this late stage it seems that we don’t have a big range of venues to select from. The good news is that it’s on 25-26 June, the same weekend as the rearranged Div 1&2 weekend.
Could I please ask the Division 3 South captains to let me know whether:
You would prefer two rounds over the two days at the usual 4NCL time limits, or whether you would prefer three rounds at 4NCL congress time controls (all moves in 90 minutes plus 30 second increment per move from move 1)?
If the latter:
(a) whether you would like two games on the Saturday and one on the Sunday, or the other way round?
(b) whether you would like all three rounds played at 4NCL congress time limits, or whether you would like the two-round day played at 4NCL congress time controls and the one-round day played at the usual league time control?
Kind regards
Mike
