Re: Sporting Terms
How can I tell which teams are in which Division? I can't find that information on the 4NCL website.

Purely guesswork on my part by looking at the 2019-20 standings in Division 1a, 1b, 2a & 2b.David Sedgwick wrote: ↑Wed Nov 03, 2021 11:31 amHow can I tell which teams are in which Division? I can't find that information on the 4NCL website.

Re: Sporting Terms
There are 55 teams to fit into the three divisions (South, Central & North). I make it that the North has just seven teams. Whilst Roger says Division 3S is "the Group of Death" we have yet to hear the make-up of these Divisions or their viability. There is now less than three weeks to go before start of play (as opposed to close of play) and I have to register all my team members some of whom have already booked into the hotel. So I would welcome some early clarification.Roger de Coverly wrote: ↑Wed Nov 03, 2021 10:44 amADs are listed under T as The ADs. KIngs Head are also still present. Does that make it 28 teams? In practice there was a flurry of late entries. Did team managers feel that even with a scratch squad they would be better to attempt to cling to at least division 2 status rather than have to enter the potential groups of death represented by division 3, particularly 3S, in 2022-23?LawrenceCooper wrote: ↑Wed Nov 03, 2021 9:51 amIf there aren't any late twists I think that leaves the Division 1/2 swiss as 26 teams having lost 3Cs, Barbican 2, ADs, Kings Head & G/ford 3.

Leonards FT Column says "There will be new champions, for Guildford’s record breakers have retired after 83 matches and eight years without defeat."

Yes, though I can't remember where I saw it first. It may have been in CHESS magazine.

Re: Sporting Terms
There will still be two Guildford teams but without the professional players so possibly along the lines of Guildford 2 and Guildford 3 from previous seasons with more emphasis on their "young guns"David Sedgwick wrote: ↑Wed Nov 03, 2021 8:22 pmYes, though I can't remember where I saw it first. Registration passwords will be issued in the next day or so once teams have been allocated to the different divisions.Neil Graham wrote: ↑Wed Nov 03, 2021 4:24 pm

Are you sure about this? The future plans document saysLawrenceCooper wrote: ↑Wed Nov 03, 2021 10:21 amnext 9 to Div 2, plus the winners of Div 3S, 3C and 3N.Mick Norris wrote: ↑Wed Nov 03, 2021 9:56 amThe Swiss would then be top 12 to Div 1 and next 12 to Div 2 for 2022/23 season? Or is it next 9 to Div 2, plus the winners of Div 3S, 3C and 3N?
The one team per club per division from 2022-23 may play a part in deciding who the top 12 are though.
For the 2021/2022 season Divisions 1 and 2 teams as at the end of the abandoned 2019/2020 season will play in one combined Swiss format division of 32 teams. At the end of the 2021/2022 season: (a) The top 12 teams in the Swiss will form Division 1 and teams finishing in 13th-24th place in the Swiss will form Division 2 of the 2022/2023 season; (b) eight teams will be relegated, and may decide in which of the three regional APA leagues they wish to play in for the 2022/2023 season

Re: Sporting Terms
Thanks Nick, I hadn't seen that
Rules are clear as you say
Rules are clear as you say
The teams finishing in 1st to 12th place in Division 1 & 2 will compose Division 1 in the 2022-23 season. The teams finishing in 13th to 21st place will compose Division 1 & 2 in the 2022-23 season. The remaining teams in Division 1 & 2 will be relegated to Division 3 in 2022-23.
The team finishing in 1st place in each of Division 3 South, Division 3 Central and Division 3 North will be promoted to Division 2 in 2022-23.
The remainder of Division 3 South, Division 3 Central and Division 3 North in 2022-23 will be filled by the teams based on their final placing in the corresponding divisions in 2021-22 until the number of teams in each division is 12. The remaining teams in Division 3 South, Division 3 Central and Division 3 North will be placed in Division 4 South, Division 4 Central and Division 4 North in 2022-23, unless the Chief Arbiter decides the number of entries at that venue is too few to organise such a division.

Re: Sporting Terms
From the e-mail circulated to captains I make the number of teams per division:
Div 1/2: 26 teams
Div 3 North: 7
Div 3 Central: 16
Div 3 South: 34
Div 1/2: 26 teams
Div 3 North: 7
Div 3 Central: 16
Div 3 South: 34

With those entries you could quite reasonably have:LawrenceCooper wrote: ↑Fri Nov 05, 2021 10:59 amFrom the e-mail circulated to captains I make the number of teams per division:
Div 1/2: 26 teams
Div 3 North: 7
Div 3 Central: 16
Div 3 South: 34
Div 3 North: 1 promoted
Div 3 Central: 2 promoted
Div 3 South: 4 promoted
still with fewer teams being relegated from Div 1/2 than would have been the case if all 32 teams had re-entered.

I thought the intention is to abandon the promotion/relegation pool idea and have all play alls of 12 teams in each division?Ian Thompson wrote: ↑Fri Nov 05, 2021 2:25 pmstill with fewer teams being relegated from Div 1/2 than would have been the case if all 32 teams had re-entered.

Yes. If 32 teams had re-entered Div 1/2 then 11 would have been relegated. With 26 re-entries and the number of Div 3 promotions I suggested 9 would be relegated.Roger de Coverly wrote: ↑Fri Nov 05, 2021 2:32 pmI thought the intention is to abandon the promotion/relegation pool idea and have all play alls of 12 teams in each division?Ian Thompson wrote: ↑Fri Nov 05, 2021 2:25 pmstill with fewer teams being relegated from Div 1/2 than would have been the case if all 32 teams had re-entered.

Re: Sporting Terms
I understand that the initial e-mail is probably incorrect; Celtic Tigers & West is Best 1 should be shown in Division 1/2 with a reduction to 15 in Central & 33 in South leaving both with an unfortunate odd number of teams.LawrenceCooper wrote: ↑Fri Nov 05, 2021 10:59 amFrom the e-mail circulated to captains I make the number of teams per division:
