It does sometimes lead to teams being a bit more unlucky than others but I think in reality there were very few (if any?) cases where teams could genuinely complain at the end of the season that the result was a true injustice.
One that comes to mind is Leeds University Old Boys in Division 3sa, 2018/2019. They scored 7/8 against the top 4 teams, finished 5th in the group by just 1 game point - had all their points discounted and got relegated.

I have not so fond memories of my team missing out on promotion from Division Three despite scoring five more points over the eleven matches than the team finishing above us in the promotion pool. I think we won the match between the teams too

I recall Bristol getting screwed out of the top division 2 spot on more then one occasion when I played for them and it really made me see the pool system as nothing more then an unjust lottery and it seems as though, many years later, there are a lot more teams who have had a negative experience then a positive one hence the reorganisation attempt this year.
Lose one queen and it is a disaster, Lose 1000 queens and it is just a statistic.

The main reason given was to reduce the number of teams from 32 to 24 so they could fit in the hotels more easily.

That needs some explanation.

Old arrangements:

Venue hosting Divisions 1 and 2:
32 teams * 8 players = 256 players

Venue hosting Divisions 3 and 4:
approx 50 teams * 6 players = 300 players (ignoring 3N as that would be somewhere else if it existed)

New arrangements:

Venue hosting Divisions 1 and 2:
24 teams * 8 players = 192 players

Venue hosting Divisions 3 and 4:
approx 62 teams * 6 players = 372 players (ignoring 3N as that would be somewhere else if it existed)

or

Venue hosting Divisions 1, 2 and 3:
24 teams * 8 players = 192 players
12 teams * 6 players = 72 players
Total 264 players

Venue hosting Division 4:
approx 50 teams * 6 players = 300 players (ignoring 3N as that would be somewhere else if it existed)

There are only two venues per round. If Division 3 plays at the same venue as Divisions 1 and 2 you need a slightly bigger venue than under the old arrangements just for Divisions 1 and 2. If Division 3 plays at the same venue as Division 4, you have to increase the required capacity for Divisions 3 and 4 by about 25% compared to what it was before.

Sharks support for obvious reason divisions 1,2,3 being together. We are an actual team and have team spirit and our motivation is not the chess.

Sharks have been totally screwed due to pairings errors this season. We will fight to keep the teams together.

Looking forward to seeing what very few of you still support the event in a literal sense next weekend
