Thank you, that's very kind. But I am not really back. I amazed myself by not even checking the forum for several months, and am now setting myself the target of not posting again until, let's say, Arsenal is back to at least eighth position in the Premiership.

I can always respond to PMs on 4NCL related matters, although the most obvious person for most queries on this forum will be the new Chief Arbiter Alex McFarlane (whose appointment I very much welcome).

Why am I even here now? I was tempted back by the performance of Freddy Gordon, whose achievement in drawing wth Michael Adams strikes me as something sensational, even taking into account the likely helpful factor that they played online (Adams has looked short of his full powers for some time now, perhaps starting from last year's olympiad, while playing online).

Looking at Arsenal's next fixtures it seems safe to assume that we won't be hearing from you for a while then :(

I too welcome Alex's appointment. I also welcome Shohreh Bayat's appointment as Deputy Chief Arbiter.

Potentially less welcome news is that I have agreed in principle to rejoin the ranks of the 4NCL arbiters next season, after an absence of about ten years.

I'll make sure that my teams know what to do if there's a fire alarm then :D

What do you mean "if"?

Yes, "when" may have been correct. That said, the last time I was at an event where David was an arbiter there were no fire alarms and one flood so it's best to expect the unexpected
