Re: Too much dishonesty in chess
They were converted using the formula 7.5* ECF + 700. That was correct by least squares fitting to adults when first devised but had already become out of date by 2019. I wasn't sure of that, but if it really was the case that the old formula was out of date, would that not have been the ideal mome...

Re: Too much dishonesty in chess
Maybe I have too vested an interest, but the Guildford Event was ECF rated. I find it strange why anyone would want to completely ignore the national rating list, just because the event is advertised as also being rated by another body. To be put in a class of cheating and dishonesty does a diservic...

Re: Chess boom?
I haven't continued Richard's tables. The nearest equivalent is a report under development in https://www.ecfrating.org.uk/doc/stats/ECFRatingStatisticsV2.html . In essence the numbers I have been quoting are under the bonnet of this report. The report has not been updated as it has needed a revamp ...

Re: Chess boom?
....Thanks Brian. Um, I was really interested in annual figures - like Richard Haddrell used to publish (but without the breakdown detail) and to answer the questions: were there fewer active OTB players in 2022 than in 2019 and, if yes, how much smaller was the population? The monthly figures you'...

Re: Chess boom?
Sorry to be a party pooper. The has been a steady return to rated chess in 2022, but on average the number of results for both standard and rapid chess are running in the low 60%s of the 2019 levels. Can you tell us: 1) How many people played OTB ECF-rated chess in 2019; 2) How many people played O...

Re: Questions on submitting results via the ECF LMS
Colin,
You should update the new results onto LMS as soon as possible.
If you have set the competition to auto-rate then you do not have to worry about the submission numbers to which Ian refers. The system will pass the new results to the rating system 4 times a month.

Re: European Senior Team Championships Dresden 2022
The championship reaches midway today. England Over 50s play 3rd seeds Slovakia today, having beaten the 2nd and 4th seeds in the last 2 rounds. Live on chess24 ( and possibly elsewhere) 3pm CET.
As a treat England 2 will be live as well today. The Over 65s have some catching up to do.

Re: Stephen Moss
Before pronouncing on this, I'd first like to know whether Mr Moss's games were rated or unrated and whether against humans or bots.... I do not have access to earlier records, but there are no ECF rated online results for Mr Moss since 1st June 2021. There appears to have been no rated activity in...

Re: FIDE Change to 400 point rule
...... (and of course not just opens - the changes will presumably apply to longer lasting events - leagues, county chess etc) And to have come up with such a change at a time when running into vastly under-rated players is as likely as ever... There are no plans to make a similar change to ECF rat...
