Re: (Chess) Life Returning To Normal
This would seem to make chess congresses even less likely, but three-board club matches still possible, probably Six player at a time internal competitions perhaps 10pm curfew as well, Edward Heath only had a 10.30p.m one. Curfew would only apply for hospitality venues, altho I accept that covers a...

Re: Membership Renewal
Well, I've paid £39 of that for 2020-21 Current Gold Member as well .....just being optimistic that the ECF would share some up to date information with its members. Fair comment. i think they will published something before the AGM as no one know how covid will effect the ECF and now after boris a...

Re: (Chess) Life Returning To Normal
Here is The Ramblers' take on the new rule-of-six, at least as conveyed through the website of North East London Ramblers: Rambling is however legally a "sport", whereas chess isn't. Suppose you had a chess club meeting of more than six and one of Boris's COVID wardens wanted to fine the lot of you...

Re: ECF AGM 17/10/20
The candidates have been announced: A contested election for Director of Home Chess, Nigel Towers v Tim Wall. An immediate problem for the new appointee is that outside of online chess, there isn't very much Home Chess to direct and unless there's a way of ignoring the government's ban on gathering...

Re: ECF AGM 17/10/20
Update on Direct of Membership I announced on 21st August that I was planning to stand again as Membership Director for no longer than a year, in order to ensure delivery of the new monthly grading system in particular. Since that announcement, I am very pleased to be able to say that, because anoth...

Re: Membership Renewal
According to the ECF lists available to organisers, as at yesterday there were 4016 members (including Junior Free Silver members) and 137 supporters. I don't have figures for the start of September 2019 to compare against but the 1/10/2019 counts were: 7524 members and 12 supporters. I wonder if t...

Re: Membership Renewal
I have posted this in another thread, but it is as relevant here (from the BBC): Up to 20,000 fans could be allowed into Twickenham to watch England play Barbarians on 25 October, the Rugby Football Union says. It would be the largest crowd at a sporting event in the UK since lockdown restrictions ...

Re: Membership Renewal
And, as ever, it's no concern of those who choose not to enter. It is however a concern for those who might be consulted over go/no go decisions for other events. In that Northumberland might set a precedent? I don't think there are any right or wrong answers at present and congresses come in all s...

Re: Membership Renewal
I have renewed my silver membership in the knowledge that Cleveland Chess association has suspended all chess until sometime in the new year. Supporting the national federation in these difficult times is essential, it has outgoings to meet. I am very happy to spend the money which after all is les...
