Re: Curious email request...

Most likely spam in my opinion. Does it mention your name, or anything else to suggest they have done some research to identify you as suitable (other than finding you have an association with chess)? What e-mail address has it come from? You and I have come to the same conclusion Ian. I have repli...

Re: Media comments on chess

Being "only a bit of entertainment" shouldn't excuse being sloppy and inaccurate in the way Pawn Sacrifice is widely regarded as being. I don't think the film originally went for historical accuracy ....the book "A Psychobiography of Bobby Fischer" by Joseph G Ponterotto is worth a look. Gardar Sve...

Re: Media comments on chess

PAWN SACRIFICE is being shown on BBC2 Saturday 23 January 23.30 to 01.15. It is, of course based on the Fischer-Spassky match. I have often wondered why it took so long to make a film based on the match. It was made in 2014. Toby Maguire played the role of Bobby. I failed to finish watching it last...

Re: Media comments on chess

I watched that 'Endeavour' First time I've watched it, apparently a young Morse. Thought the policewoman was better, it was her who spoke French, and she was the chess player, first to recognise chess notation clues. Chess was OK, they gave a nod to Ian Fleming calling an opening 'The Kronsteen var...

Re: (Chess) Life Returning To Normal

I've been informed from a reliable source that Blackpool Congress 12th to 14th March has been cancelled. No confirmation on the website yet though. This was expected. Lets see if the website gets updated. It's possible to book hotel accommodation in Torquay for the announced dates of the British Ch...

I remember the Leicester Congress was named the "H E Atkins Memorial".
There must be residents of Leicestershire & its neighbouring counties with information, games, photographs etc.

Paul why does that matter. Since March the advice has been for office staff and employers has been work from home if you can.
So that is easy and when it comes to renewal it may take a minute or two for a phone call as per last 10? years to pay.
Just curious.
Do you know the answer?
