Re: Ho-Hum

You just don't understand how the world works. Scammers are able to hide behind people like you who are too scared to allow the truth to get out.

Re: Ho-Hum

1) A person's arrest for an offence does not, in and of itself, mean he or she has committed that offence. You're so naive. 2) A person's arrest or conviction for an offence does not, in and of itself, mean his or her reputation can be impugned without consequence in other matters. Completely wrong...

Re: My Story

Who gave Carl permission to lasso the chess playing community on to his site. I thought it was paid for by the ECF. I thought Carl was a paid employee of the ECF. It was originally an official ECF Forum. When a Council meeting moved to sever all links, it became an unofficial privately-operated for...

Re: My Story

I would just like to say, Carl, that I find it unfair that you have moderated my post and everyone who says we should hear the other side of the story. Nonsense, I removed one rather personal comment (less than a sentence) that was really not needed and had no effect on the points you were trying t...

Re: ECF Code of Conduct

Jonathan,

Where do you stand on people trying to build empires within chess, by denigrating what others have done to build their empire.

What has the ECF done for me lately?

Just been looking at Tony Gaffney's (London based) Up-To-Date Grading List from No.3 January 86 (yes over 26 years ago), it make interesting reading. You got list of events included in the grading list, and details of grading publication requirements (minimum 15 games and maximum 50 <= latest I woul...

Re: Minimum Grades

Is there any-one on here that would let this guy play in an under 170 event. Kidlington allowed it, but he got hacked up. http://www.ecfgrading.org.uk/?ref=101820G&listid=173402054 Is he the same as this guy . I believe they are the same. Different FIDE rating code though. After further investigati...

Re: Minimum Grades

Grading/rating has to be accurate, but also has to be informed. Is there any-one on here that would let this guy play in an under 170 event. I personally don't believe anybody should be aloud to enter a grading limited event if they don't have a grade. I see too many graded events won by ungraded p...

Good to know. Let's hope you do a better job than the guy who FIDE rated the 2010 Surrey Major event. What a cock up that was.
Enlighten me.......

Re: Bullying at chess

I've come across this before, but it was the juniors and not the adults using these distracting tactics. I've also had a Junior in forced mate - and rather than make his one remaining move or resign, he simply allowed all his time to run out (about 30 minutes ) He then stood up and left the b...

Re: Minimum Grades

Oh, and another problem with the casual way ECF approach grading. Tony is Anthony, Bill is William, Andy is Andrew etc. etc. etc. so amateurish. I don't care what you nickname is your real name is 'Smith, Thomas', not Tommy 'Bulldog' Smith.

When are the ECF going to get a grip?

Re: Deaths of Chess Players

Vera Menchik survived the German bombing of the National Chess Centre on 23 September 1940 where she was manager (http://www.westlondonchess.com/node/134) but died when a V-1 rocket hit her home in Kent on June 26, 1944. Does anyone have marriage records as I just read that she was Vera Menchik-Ste...
