Re: 2010-2011 Grades?

Adjournment now only happens if both players want it : no-one can be forced into this nonsense any longer. We now have much more sensible time control including incremental ones for those who understand the benefits. John, as you know I played in the Border League for over 20 years. I started runni...

Re: 2010-2011 Grades?

Do you seriously believe this? Some league games involve adjournments, blocking all from being being graded because of this is quite frankly ridiculous. Also, are you trying to claim that the 4NCL is not "proper games"? Afaik they are the largest league in the country, and you want their 7 hour ses...

Re: 2010-2011 Grades?

The Birmingham League hasn't actually finished yet, but should have done by Friday. There's 1 playoff tonight (which is quickplay finishes), and 1 adjourned session on Friday in a playoff I'm involved in. Naturally, this delays getting grading files sent in... I guess the best way to deal with this...

Re: Are Opens a little too open?

the SCCA were never responsible for the 2006 Surrey Chess Congress, so leave them alone as well. OK, obviously I need to clear this one up as Kevin is claiming not to understand. The 2006 congress (unlike all the events since), was originally a SCCA committee. However, after we received sponsorship...

Re: Are Opens a little too open?

For the record, the clocks were with the open controllers - For Paul Dupre's benefit, I never said whether or not they were being used (in fact I don't know if any of them were used or not at any time). With respect, whether they were used or not was actually completely irrelevant to the situation ...

Re: Prize Money

And finally...When are you guys going to ditch those silly 3 digits and join the rest of the planet. I am totally fed up having to remember the mathmatical formula for converting to the proper and more accurate 4 digit grade. Totally agree with you Geoff. It's about time England move into the 21st ...

Re: Are Opens a little too open?

Although I am not suggesting here that anyone was guilty of stealing them, the flip side to the argument is that if anyone did chuck them away, bear in mind they would have been quite a weight and quite a shape that would certainly have made most people look in the bags to see what they were. That'...

Re: Are Opens a little too open?

I think it is great that the pairings are online like this, though in an ideal world it would include the score each player is on. For the Intermediate and Major, the score can be worked out from the results of the previous rounds (also online), but for the Open the round 3 and round 4 results are ...

Re: New 'New junior grades'

Great that you're still playing chess at 106, but I'm not sure how you left school at 113 :? I'm not sure you can conclude much from a statistical sample of 1, but then that never stops people from trying  113 BCF Grade. Believe it or not Edison stood alone when he invented the light bulb. I ...

Re: COULSDON "EASTER" INTERNATIONAL 17-21 April

Kevin is correct. 3.2.1 A Club may be represented in Club Competitions only by its members A player who represents a Club in a Club Competition may also represent another Club in a different division in the same competition. Where a player elects to play for two Clubs, both must notify the Controll...

Re: New 'New junior grades'

Apart from Richard Bates, most of you are looking in the wrong direction (that includes the Howard Grist). Improvement is not based on age at all. It is based on how much help you get. When I was a junior several centuries ago, I was a very weak player (some say I still am). However, I played a lot ...
