Re: Gerry Walsh Will Not Seek Re-Election as ECF President

thought you were eyeing up ecf president I'm guessing that Phil Makepeace has that one sewn up? Do I detect a faint whiff of questioning my integrity? :) As I've stated at least twice on this board, I might get involved with the vacant Student Rep position once I feel I have the time to commit to it.

Re: Mobile Phones (and Grandmasters)

What I tend to do now is take the battery out before play. This obviously removes any possibility of forgotten alarms or low battery signals ruining your afternoon.

Right, so that's my theory gone. I hope Akobian unleashes a miniature all the same...that's if the game's actually going ahead.

Re: Gibraltar and the lowest rated IM ever?

I agree that it's a farce. However, I have a feeling that there may be a deep karmic irony embedded in Mr. Kozlov's tournament performance, based on his deflated rating: So far, if we take into account that Sandipan and Kotronias were more than 350 points higher than him, and that Gonzalez Amaya was...

True, Ernie does have quite an appropriate surname for international espionage. Having spoken to him in depth on the subject at Liverpool, I will be very interested to read Malcolm Pein's thoughts on the scandal in his next CHESS Editorial. Regarding Ben's point which has been made before, I would n...

Re: Can you recommend a good book?

Jonathan Rowson's 'The Seven Deadly Chess Sins' and 'Chess For Zebras'. Both of these are I feel geared more towards improving how one plays, rather than what. The psychological and philosophical elements of the latter title are a good read irrespective of the chess elements. But they're both excell...

Re: Can Under 30's get on ECF council

Given the title of the vote, and given my name has been mentioned, perhaps I should rule myself out of anything at least until May, which is when I turn 20...

I think that avatars which relate to a member's standing in the chess world e.g. a club or county logo or badge, should be allowed. That way, they add to the profile information supplied. I don't see any need for smileys on a board of this nature - to be honest, the only one that I can think will ev...
