Re: Anyone else missing the C/Anand and C/Karjakin matches?

Twelve draws now.

Anyone still thinking that Caruana has been a much better challenger for an entertaining match than Anand or Karjakin?

Re: Anyone else missing the C/Anand and C/Karjakin matches?

Seven draws in a row, most of which pretty uneventful.
Already worse than the C/Anand matches.
Same number of starting draws as the C/Karjakin match, but then we had two decisive games with increased fighting spirit.

Anyone else missing the C/Anand and C/Karjakin matches?

Very funny comments from Grischuk when joining the 6th game commentaires on chess24... essentially he refused to comment on the position and the opening choices, nothing interesting to say about the game. I remember the disappointment when Anand and the Karjakin qualified for the world championship,...

are we doing updates on here for the game? youtube blocked at a lot of people's work :-)
This site is unlikely to be blocked by corporate firewalls and it seems it will show the game:

Anyone recommend a good site to follow the match
https://chess24.com/en/wcc2018
Live commentaries from Peter Svidler, Alexander Grishuck and Anish Giri.
Jan Gustafsson is missing, so we can assume is again part of Carlsen seconds.

World Championship Schedule

Just looked at the world championship schedule and I noticed that there are 6 rest days, of which 3 fall on a weekend. I wonder why they decided to have so many rest days over the weekend and why they placed the final game and tie-break on week days. It looks as if chess attracts a bigger audience d...

Re: FIDE internal fighting

Also at the ECU. This hasn't received much publicity. I'm not sure when the posts are up for re-election, but you have to wonder how many hats the ECF's International Director and FIDE Delegate is allowed to wear before running into conflicts of interest ? I doubt the ECF Governance has ever consid...

Re: Yorkshire grading system

While Chessnuts was a ground breaking piece of software (and very user friendly to boot) it has become increasingly hard to defend having two grading lists, particularly as the inconsistency between the two increases year or year. You could use the exact same arguments discussing the ECF grading as...

Re: America want the World Title Match

Been reading this: The match will take place November 9-28 in London, but St. Louis is rumored to be launching a bid to bring the match home, a move which could include a prize pot far in excess of the $1 million being offered in London. https://www.cbsnews.com/news/fabiano-caruana-vs-magnus-carlse...

Re: Consultation on the Draft FIDE Live Moves Broadcasting Policy

I did watch few of the post games interviews on youtube and I was surprised how often the interviewer Anastasiya Karlovich quoted Peter Svidler's live commentary.

It looks like even people working in an official capacity for Agon prefer watching the illegal alternative broadcasting of chess24 :D

Re: Candidates Tournament in Berlin March 2018

Despite not performing here only Aronian could actually beat Carlsen in my opinion. I completely disagree. Aronian time and again seem to underperform in the candidates, this only make me think it would perform even worse under the pressure of a world championship match. Given the historical result...

Re: Consultation on the Draft FIDE Live Moves Broadcasting Policy

It's identical to my crisp copy of Fritz 10, Roger. It's not going to transfer perfectly to YouTube. That's not its original platform. You seem confused. The official video commentary is using the interface you claim identical to Fritz 10. The twitter clip is instead from the live chessboards on th...

Re: Consultation on the Draft FIDE Live Moves Broadcasting Policy

Nah tho. That's just Torynomics. "If you peasants think capital gains tax is such a good idea, why aren't you volunteering to pay it?" No, it's more like: if you are not interested in live chess broadcast then stop telling people how those should be done. It just looks like Fritz/ChessBase graphics...

Re: Consultation on the Draft FIDE Live Moves Broadcasting Policy

So you're saying that whether or not you're in favour of free stuff comes down to whether you personally benefit from it? No, I was saying that you seem to be in favour of (other) chessplayers to pay for watching live chess games while the same is of no interest to you. In chess terms, it looks lik...

Re: Consultation on the Draft FIDE Live Moves Broadcasting Policy

Since I didn't see the Agon broadcast - what was it that you didn't like about it? That's surprising... first you advocate FIDE/Agon should be allowed to charge any arbitrary amount for an exclusive live games broadcast and then you are not a subscriber of their services? How odd. Unless you are no...
