Except nobody from Lichess or Chess.com has ever claimed their algorithms are infallible. So it is rather dishonest to claim they have.
That's not quite what I claimed they said, Matthew.
Perhaps it would be better if you quoted what they actually say rather than just making it up.

Re: Cheating in chess

Still, I find Lichess' attitude to the subject to be too self-congratulatory to be healthy. I couldn't agree more. They should either do the job or stop saying that they do it. A perfectly reasonable response would be "Look, there's a gazillion twats out there. We're doing all we can but with the b...

You have to love the way the Black pawn is included to make it a legal position

Traditionally the Torbay area has been regarded as part of the West Country, but more guidance on West Country zoning disputes can be obtained here

Re: Interesting finish to a game

Interesting that bringing the BK closer to White's (after forcing it to b8) doesn't win, presumably White can use their B to stop that working? My impression is that Black has to be careful not to lose, as in some lines the bishop might be able to block the perpetual checks, but then the Black quee...

Interesting finish to a game

I am not sure how to insert a position, so hopefully someone can help me out. I have just played a 3 minute game, we had the following position (I was Black) White a2 b3 g3 h3 Kg2 Rf2 Nb6 Qa7 Black b4 d6 e7 f7 g6 h5 Kg7 Rc8 Qd5 Nf3 The game finished Nh4+ Kh2 Nf3 Kg2 Nh4+ Kh2 Nf3+ Kg2 and a draw by r...

Re: Cheating in chess

Now it is probably more of a 200-300 gap (I really doubt he is 2200, and that some of his peers are 2100-2400), and as you get stronger the gap reduces. Joe, the rule of thumb i use is Ecf (new grade or online grade) = fide +100, lichess = fide +400 and chess.com = fide +200. Not valid at all level...

Re: Cheating in chess

With various different lines of best fit, the relationship has been updated over time, but it has been a constant that 200 equates to 2200. My experience is that the Lichess rating is pretty accurate, possibly 100 points inflated, but not really more than that. Hence, I would be surprised if many 17...

Re: Cheating in chess

As always Wadih makes some interesting points, but it should be remembered that platforms do not know ECF or FIDE grades. They are also looking at performance in terms of move matching rather than results. Fluke results happen, a junior might defeat an IM (perhaps because the titled player blundered...

Re: Cheating in chess

If you have an automated system then you cannot also have a low threshold of proof, otherwise your website would very quickly implode. If you have an automated system then you must also have a very high threshold of proof for these cases.
