Re: Cheating in chess
Sorry, Roger, but you must not overlook - that does not absolve parents of responsibility.

Re: Cheating in chess
Roget, you have pointed out on here a sad lack of parental reponsibility in some cases and at times acts of complete irresponsibility. You cannot expect the service providers to cater for all such things. A line has to be drawn somewhere.

Re: End of an era
In the vast scheme of things this thread is like periodic navel gazing and constantly finding annoying fluff in it. The science behind it - https://www.bbc.com/future/article/20150709-the-curious-truth-about-belly-button-fluff Does the main complainer here go on social media to berate the Spanish, o...

Re: Cheating in chess
Was Russias space programme science? You are on the right track... Science is not always public- there's miltary science which is secret, for example. If all such science was just research it would never produce the hardware that rival miltaries cannot match. The largely hidden world of espionage e...

Re: 4NCL On-Line Season 3
One of the games in Round Six (Braunstone v Bishop Knights in Division Five) seems to be voided at 0-0. Both teams earned a point for this draw. I wonder if anyone knows what happened? All 4 boards in that match are now 0 - 0 as is the match result itself, in effect. Last night I noticed one 0 - 0 ...

Re: Cheating in chess
[Okay, it’s not chess, but how often do well trained mid-teen juniors bolt on 400-500 points of performance strength in 10 months? (Not to mention without being able to play any over the board chess.) I think its also worth noting that improvements are logarithmic in terms of amount of effort - eac...

Rebrand it as a FIDE Online World Championship and a multitude of sins will be covered. I'm not sure what you mean. Anything online has Online in the title. Nick, what you quote me saying above was in response to Paolo C's - "... maybe it's just not possible to have an online competition branded as...

Re: Laws of Chess - changes
John McKenna WhIte HAD lost he right to play 0-0-0 because the position given us only had the R and K on the board. So it was now - or never. We have glossed over the fact that the position was totally illegal anyway. There was no Black king on the board. It is one of the most common errors, not be...

White did not have the right to castle Q-side in said position "because the bishop is attacking d1."
White had not lost the right to castle Q-side subsequently, in said position, however.

Re: Was Gimeno really shot?
A book by one Decoroso Crespo López - https://www.todostuslibros.com/libros/informatica-teorica-parte-1_978-84-85632-36-7 May not be the same one you refer to above. Perhaps his friend Tomás Gimeno Patiño received a fatal head injury in a labour dispute. A summary execution after a "mock trial" is p...
