Re: Registered Coaches Scheme

Rob, This is an excellent initiative. May I suggest you add "Elite" as a label over and above for the very "best" coaches or at least those coaching much stronger pupils. Of course there are excellent coaches working with much lower rated and experienced students. I feel somewhat embarrassed to have...

Re: Best Wishes GM Dr. Jonathan Mestel (13-iii-1957)

I've have added details of the infamous "Brenda O'Randall incident" at Portsmouth 1976 So Leonard Barden got his revenge in a later Guardian column by reporting that Jonathan was wasting his time at Cambridge doing 'research into anagrams'. This highly academic study should surely have produced the...

Robert Silk Tournament Games

I have struggled to find games from the Robert Silk Fellowship tournaments during the 1970s. There are a few games from the 1982 and 1984 events. Does anyone have any games from the 1970s events? I have Littlewood-Mestel from the 1976 event and there a couple more scattered in BCMs and CHESS. Thanks!

Best Wishes GM Dr. Jonathan Mestel (13-iii-1957)

Best Wishes GM Dr. Jonathan Mestel (13-iii-1957) Jonathan was one of key architects of the English Chess Explosion which, I would argue, started two years earlier than the book of the same name documents. He is of course a multi-talented mathematician, bridge player of renown, World Solving Champio...

As this is a chess forum, I think you should have chosen the chess puzzles from the same set of questions:
Isn't Google wonderful : if you can't solve a puzzle look-it up!

The chess equivalent of using an engine I suppose.

David, Are you able to perform "the big reveal" or will Matthew do the honours? Who is the ex=FIDE Official? Matthew and Jonathan M have left the task to me, so here goes. David Jarrett was BCF President from 1985 to 1989 and a FIDE Official from 1996 until (?)2014, initially as Treasurer and subse...
