I believe the organiser has 5 and probably 6 of the 7 signed up.Joey Stewart wrote: ↑Sat Oct 10, 2020 11:38 pmI got an email earlier with a very enthusiastic attempt to revitalise the WECU county scene as an online event so hopefully that will bear fruit in due course and there will be several more counties involved

Re: ECF Online County Championship
My view, which I think there was a least some sympathy with, is that if it happens again the format should be somewhat similar but with a knockout/plate structure. Eight rounds would be far too many in anything approaching normal times. I'd also like to place on record my thanks for the hard work o...

Re: ECF Online County Championship
"On the other hand I do worry(?) that the demographic playing county chess doesn't hugely overlap with the one playing online. Dunno." That is a good point. Having played chess in Surrey for years, where there were about ten clubs within 30 minutes' drive, and it was feasible to also play other lea...

I do too as I appreciate a lot of work has gone into this, but it will reinforce the view that the internet is for blitz.

That would be my feeling. Anyone who wants to play should be allowed to continue I guess. I don't know.

I would think the arbiters are going to have their work cut out. Several games already started.

Re: ECF Online County Championship
Speaking as a captain I found it approximately ten times more stressful and time consuming than organising a team and playing in an OTB county match. I really miss the social aspects, travelling, meeting people and so forth. But it is chess, although not as we know it (and we won our match by 1 poi...

Re: Will the County Championship go ahead
The West Country is the oldest part of the country by a fair margin (retirees). London the youngest so holding some kind of competition when older people might not want/be able to play ought to benefit the SCCU teams (and Manchester) at the expense of WECU one, which is probably only Devon. We'd cop...

Re: World Youth Championships
The match description gives me a vivid recollection of a rapid game I played about 30 years ago in which my opponent took 8 minutes on the game, a very exciting game in which I had little idea what was happening. My opponent seemed to find tactic after tactic but, unlike the Southbourne game, I jus...

Re: World Youth Championships
because sometimes you need a big shift in attitudes and this is one of those times. Why do you need a big shift in attitudes? It's against the laws of over the board chess to consult external sources during the game, and always has been. I agree with previous posters though that you have to establi...
