Re: London Chess Classic 2023

I've just noticed this is in "ECF Matters", not sure why as there aren't many ECF members in it. I hope the organizers have apologised to Niemann for spelling his name wrongly in the overview. The Shreyas ending looks tricky to me, plenty of opportunities for either player to foul it up. After many...

Adams certainly got lucky there, though I suppose it balances out his not getting a full point yesterday.
This felt like a point gained compared to a half lost but, from an English perspective, a welcome one.

Re: London Chess Classic 2023

According to the kindergarten Stockfish, Adams and Niemann are both in trouble. Not sure I believe that, might be a bit more worried about Royal and McShane. I certainly wouldn't volunteer to defend either position with black but perfect defence might keep the balance. Of course if white blunders.....

Last move 54. Rd1 1/2-1/2
Were the last few moves recorded on lichess not played?
I believe that the game was drawn by repetition after 54 Ke2.

Re: London Chess Classic 2023

Xmas party tonight, Adams v Gukesh tomorrow, rest day on Wednesday Niemann and Tabatabaei were playing bullet at the party last night, before heading off together and generally looking best buddies. Hence their quick (dare I say pre-arranged?) draw today not a huge surprise. I noticed that they bot...

Re: London Chess Classic 2023

At the end of round 4 Adams is leading on 3/4, half ahead of Gukesh, Niemann & Moussard. Nikita & Shreyas are on 1.5 & Luke is on 1.

Re: Major investment to transform future of English chess announced

Or is the idea that an individual brings a set and sits there waiting to tempt some passing stranger. What could possibly go wrong? I think it is like a lot of similarly hare brained schemes involving chess- the "ideas man" thinks how fun and erudite it looks to have people playing chess in a park,...

Is Volokitin generally in time trouble, or was today's game especially complex? He's lost

Gukesh move 26 looks like a mistake
Yes 26 Rd2 instead of Qd4 looks like a full point swing.

He was in huge time trouble yesterday well before move 20.

Re: London Chess Classic 2023

Shreyas wins. Great result and well done. Tabby did seem to rather ask for it in the ending with 44 ...g5. You have to just sit and wait for White to find the winning plan in endings such as this but it's very unpleasant. It was the top engine move. It looked rather committal but understandable to ...

2150+ female player needed for WIM round robin in France Dec 26th-30th

I am Benjamin MARRET. I am organizing a round robin WIM tournament in Rouen (Normandy, France) from December 26th til December 30th. Very recently, one of the player decided not play anymore, there are now 9 players. I am strongly looking for a foreign female player with elo > 2150 to participate in...

Did she do anything during her tenure?
Are you familiar with the Cambridge International Open? She was both tournament director and chief arbiter. She was also very helpful in my dealings with her whilst in the post.
