Re: Senior Tournaments in 2021

A quick Google search took me to their website: https://amateurchess.com/ which shows both events scheduled for this months as being postponed. They were postponed from 2020 and are happening now. Ah yes, sorry. That is clear enough from the top of the page but less so from my quick glance further ...

Is the ACO congress in Crete actually in progress now? Who is playing? Is there a website with results and games?

Re: (Chess) Life Returning To Normal

I am rather concerned about the fact that three title norm tournaments are planned for England before the end of September. It may be that foreign players will be hard to come by. An understandable concern but with the exception of two or three from Ireland and one from Scotland they all live in En...

To be honest I tried using the foes list but found it irritating to be alerted to a new post by Nick and then not be able to read it....

Re: Shortest legitimate games

I'm not sure if opening traps in blitz arenas should count but I finally managed to find a victim in this off beat line of the Dutch tonight:

1 d4 f5 2 h3 Nf6 3 g4 hg 4 hg Ng4 5 Qd3 Nf6 6 Rh7 Rh7 7 Qg6 mate.

Re: Checkmate Covid - The Rematch

Yes, it was a fun event. My life time score against Keith Arkell has worsened to 0-15 (a tennis score). Hope we don't reach the next one - I'm quite happy to play Keith, and hope we do for many years, but it would be nice to win one... I'm definitely forming the impression that he's better than me....

5 draws?
Correct. Deac-Giri is worth a look but nothing much to report elsewhere.

It's not every day you get to hear Mickey Adams commentating on a David Sedgwick game

Bogdan-Daniel Deac is a talented player, if not yet obviously in this class. Perhaps this can be his breakthrough.
Radjabov-Caruana drawn in 18 moves, soon followed (albeit with rather more moves) by Grischuk-MVL & Lupulescu-Aronian.

Re: FTX Crypto Cup 23 to 31 May 2021

TWIC day 6 The first set of the semifinals of the FTX Crypto Chess tournament saw Wesley So take the lead against Ian Nepomniachtchi by winning the final game of a day after he seemed on the back foot for most of it. Magnus Carlsen took the lead against Teimour Radjabov by winning a fine game three...

Re: FTX Crypto Cup 23 to 31 May 2021

After the end of the preliminary rounds:

Caruana 10.5
Giri, Nakamura, MVL, So 9.5
Carlsen & Radjabov 8.5
Nepo & Aronian 8

which means Caruana v Nepo, Giri v Radjabov, Nakamura v Carlsen & MVL v So.

Re: EUROPEAN HYBRID QUALIFICATION TOURNAMENT FOR THE FIDE WORLD CUP

Shohreh Bayat and Alex McFarlane, who are the Local Arbiters at the venue in England. Five players and two arbiters makes seven. Presumably same route through "rule of six" restrictions has been devised. It could be as simple as two rooms. As this is a hybrid event though and the five players will ...

Re: Grand Prix Gibraltar revised to May 22 to June 2, 2021

There was quite a turnaround in her game today. https://www.chessbomb.com/arena/2021-fide-womens-grand-prix-gibraltar/01-Bulmaga_Irina-Paehtz_Elisabeth 38.Nd2 isn't technically a WMOTB, but allowing ...Qc1 is the only plausible way to destroy a totally winning position. There was a nice line had sh...
