Before the tournament began, I considered Ian Nepomniachtchi, Fabiano Caruana, Ding Liren and Alireza Firouza as the top contenders. Since Caruana has been playing great chess for some time, I thought he would eventually win.

Re: Madrid Candidates 16th June to Tue 5th Jul 2022
TWIC Ian Nepomniachtchi won his fifth game of the Candidates beating Alireza Firouzja in the eleventh round of the FIDE Candidates in Madrid. The story of this game even early on was that Firouzja was up all night playing hyper bullet 30 second chess on the Internet. I'm afraid his reckless play to...

Bit more complicated with relegation from Div 2 as the proposed number of Div 3s has changed

Re: World Senior Teams 19 to 30 June 2022
I see the over 50's England 1 team have now won their match and the over50's Team Senior World Championship. With the over65 Team winning yesterday England now have two World Championship winning Teams. CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL THE PLAYERS IN BOTH TEAMS. On Twitter, Natasha Regan has reported that th...

Looking like a good strategy so farJustinHorton wrote: ↑Wed Jun 29, 2022 4:39 pmThat's the first ticked offJustinHorton wrote: ↑Mon Jun 27, 2022 6:41 pmNepo has three Whites in his next four games, the exception being Firouzja in round eleven. I am guessing that if he can get them (and if he does not lose in round eleven) he will be happy with draws in all of those games.

Isnt that about a 2700 rating performance?
Not too shabby for a 67 year old!

Good luck Keith, we're all rooting for you all
We're not going to win in India, so winning this is a bigger deal

Re: Division 3 South 2021-22
Manticores 1 and 2, if both in Div 3, would ideally be at the same venue
If we have a Manticores 3, then yes, they'd be at a different venue some of the time
Anyway, I shouldn't encroach on a Div 3 S thread

Re: Division 3 South 2021-22
I don't know how many teams the Manticores will have, but I'd guess separating them between 2 venues won't be popular
Maybe asking those with multiple teams might be the best idea, although presumably the idea is to have 2 divisions of roughly equal strength

Re: Paignton: 2022 - 2023
Yes, very good David. You selectively quoted. You missed off "but that doesn't mean it's over. We need to get cases down even further - if we go into autumn [2021] with 20,000 cases a day I would be very worried." If I recall, case counts by the end of 2021 were approaching 200,000 a day. How many ...
