Re: 2024 Candidates qualification revised process

Dominguez not currently eligible (not enough events), so still Firouja. But this group realistically could also compete: 12 ↑6 Maghsoodloo, Parham 2742.4 13 ↑2 Praggnanandhaa R 2740.3 14 ↑12 Keymer, Vincent 2737.9 I don't know if any of them planning to play in December. Pragg has already qualified

Re: Tata Steel 12 - 28 Jan 2024

"Ding (I really hope he plays)" I have sent a message to the organisers telling them I can take Ding's place if he pulls out. I'll let you know if I get a reply. In the days before email I often use to apply for football managers jobs just so I would a crested letter reply. Most replied but all sur...

Re: Annoying line in the Caro kahn

It reminds me of Mourinho complaining about opponents 'parking the bus' or a mixed martial arts striker complaining about boring wrestlers who just hold them down. If you can't gety past the bus, or get up off the floor - it's on you. Blaming your failure to achieve your goal on the opponent is anti...

Re: Breaking the Silence Online - sexual harassment in online chess

I am sorry to hear that you have received so much abuse online. This kind of toxic, adversarial discourse is unfortunately growing across all platforms and forums. The anonymity offered by the internet seems to dramatically intensify the abuse. And a lot of (big) boys clearly can't handle the though...

A dramatic point swing in the Belenkaya-Lan Yao puts our women one ahead, Akshaya has drawn so just the two whites left.
Belenkaya had a forced win with 30.bxc6 Bxc6 31.Bxc6 dxc6 32.Rc4!!

Quite a turnaround - Lan Yao seems to have many rabbits in her hat

Re: 4NCL 2023-24 Division Two

What would happen if you actually won the division, do you think you would be able to handle division 1 or would you have to decline the promotion? In the unlikely event of getting promoted, we would invoke the spirit of The Crazy Gang's FA Cup victory and enter the foxes den with hope in our heart...

I think Barbican are top by alphabet difference.

Since we joined Division 2, we find ourselves repeatedly surprised by our positive results. Long may they continue..

Re: Isle Of Man International (Fide Grand Swiss)

Vidit must assume that Esipenko will achieve a draw and have a better tiebreak. So he needs to play for a win; luckily he is facing an aggressive opponent who will surely be playing all out for a win himself. So, sit tight and wait for his opponent to take the risk?

Is there any easy way to see the age profile of those playing?
Clicking the name of any player on chess-results shows their d.o.b

Re: Smart Phone Chess

By far the most useful app I use is the Chessbase database. It costs a few quid, but it is well designed, easy to use and perfect for prep when away from a computer.
