Re: Caterpillar Display

Not sure if this is what you mean but in education for the very young a sequence of events can be given written on a caterpillar. For example the colours of the rainbow could be written in order (or coloured in) on a picture of a caterpillar with a round head and 7 round body parts, with legs on eve...

Re: Cheating in chess

Apologies if this is well known, but from much of the material I have read on this case it does not appear to be so. Tornelo does not ban players. Its software only does a reduced check to highlight potential cases. (A cut down Regan test, if you like.) It is up to the tournament organiser/arbiters ...

Re: The ACO is back!

With regard to the CAA advice, some clarification is probably needed. Under the previous FIDE administration a warning was issued that any arbiter involved in this event (playing or arbiting) risked being sanctioned. That 'advice' has not been rescinded as far as I am aware. Whether any punishment w...

Re: Scarborough Congress

It is hoped that it will be possible to run the Scarborough Congress this year on the weekend of 29-31 October. The Centre is planning to re-open from July so the Spa Centre itself should be available by the planned dates. There is obviously still doubt about what the Covid situation will be then, s...

Re: (Chess) Life Returning To Normal

Not sure about a DBS check but for a PVG a basic check, which shows unspent convictions and conditional cautions a standard check, which shows spent and unspent convictions, cautions, reprimands and final warnings an enhanced check, which shows the same as a standard check plus any information held ...

Re: (Chess) Life Returning To Normal

I'm confused, isn't that what teachers do all the time? Yes, but teachers and others working in schools are PVG checked or whatever the English equivalent is (DBS I think). Although far from foolproof, it gives parents some reassurance. Teachers are also sometimes warned about pupils and will teach...

Re: (Chess) Life Returning To Normal

How visible from the outside is the room to be used? There could be child protection issues with one adult in a room with 14 young children and otherwise unsupervised. I would not allow one adult in a room full of children without a chaperone. This can be as much for the arbiter's protection as for ...

Re: Civil Service Rules

Many employers at that time had rules regarding husband and wife working together. Simply, if there was a married couple one of them had to resign. It would normally be expected that this would be the woman. Indeed until October 1946 the Civil Service banned ALL married women and married women abroa...

Re: Proposed reorganisation

Some interesting ideas, but if I can play Devil's Advocate. We may not be able to compete in all of the intended weekends. As such is it wise to design a structure which will add an additional one? I would think ideas that would have such an extension are perhaps best considered for the following se...

Re: Proposed reorganisation

I'd better start by saying that these are my personal views and in no way represent those of the 4NCL! With regard to the suggestions made by Ian Thomson. Division 3 has used a 'decelerated swiss' for a few seasons to keep the interest in promotion going into the final weekend. In my opinion it work...

Re: Briish Championship Congress 2021

Ian, If a Scot chose the British as if it were a normal event then they are likely to play too many English players for a regular norm. There may be 20 players with 10 titled in every round that are not ENG but that is gamble. If the Scot chose the British as their national championship then they ar...

Not registered for FIDE rating.
But claiming norms!! The Chief Arbiter is listed as AI. I assume this means an un-named International Arbiter rather than an artificial intelligence.
