This results of this study don't seem at all surprising to me. The idea that mental abilities don't start (even to a small extent) to decline until after the age of 60 on average seems very counter-intuitive (when one considers the age of world chess champions, when mathematicians do their best work...

As above, Player A should continue to record the game. The position is not adjudicated; an obvious and simple example of when an adjudication would be a win, but a 10.2 claim would be a draw is KBN v K where the player with the B and N has not succeeded in driving the opposing K towards the correct...

In choosing a chess move (say which rook to move to a central file) it is surely possible to benefit from good luck. What's the correct form if during a game you become worried that you might have left your phone on (in the same way that you might leave home and worry that the gas has been left on)? Should you dig it out of your jacket and check, or surreptitiously take your jacket with you to the toilet and check...

Tuesday 3 August's Guardian had 'Cunning chess player takes castle after start of play (8)'.
