Kavalek was also one of Bobby Fischer's seconds in the World Chess Championship 1972.

Re: Could everyone lose their grade
Shall I give you the gender of all the players I know where you currently have nothing? Paul, If a grader thinks something is wrong with the list, then as you are one, I encourage you to email Matt or myself and we can work on it. An obvious question before anybody spends time doing that is whether...

Re: Summary of the new grading system?
Where could I find a summary of the new grading system? Of interest, I am particularly keen to understand the relationship between win% and grade differential. In the current ECF system, it is rather easy: a difference of ten implies a 60/40 win ratio, a 20 point implies a 70/30, up to 50 where the...

Re: Minimum Grades
Grading and entries into the database clearly involve humans, and humans are not perfect. As a mere player, I appreciate their commitment (both as graders and tournament organisers). That only 28 possible "obvious" duplicates were found is quite impressive! So, frankly, not a lot to see here! Maybe...

Re: Minimum Grades
Anyway, I will submit as previously (by Mike Gunn) as 144942E and ask for a merge.
Though, so far haven't had any replies from Matthew Carr.

Re: Minimum Grades
Wow Ian, spectacular. I'm very impressed.
You're the sort of chap we need running the grading for the ECF.

Re: Minimum Grades
Okay, now I'm the Surrey (SCCA) grader which Neil Crosswell (Guildford) should I use. 144942E Crosswell, Neil * 192 1 192 Guildford (1 game Surrey league December submission 2019-2020) 269753B Crosswell, Neil M E 119 9 1072 Guildford (NEW player 2019) Who is responsible for setting this player up as...

Re: Minimum Grades
Another problem with the current ECF system is duplication (not so with FIDE - at least I've not heard of any), players with multiple grades. Several of my mates had multiple grades during the 1980's due to playing all over England. One even had and different name, because of his appalling writing....

Re: January Grades are out
Well done Brian. My Grade is now A170 as it should be, though still one game short. The missing game for anyone who's interested was Internal South Norwood club tournament 28-Mar-2019 against Richard Davis [132] which I won. Even the historical corrections have been made now. I'm back to 166 for las...

Re: January Grades are out
An actual mistake, how does my games in 2019 (standard play) show as 41 when I only played 38, and the ECF Grading database website only shows 37. 2019/20 is 21 (100% correct) and 2018/19 shows 16 (1 short), therefore 21 + 16 = 37 NOT 41. Surely computer programs should not make simple mathematical...

Re: Shortest game
In the example quoted by Tim (strange how these disasters often befall White), White will have a pawn for the piece. Might I fancy my chances of playing on against a certain type of opponent? Possibly, as Black will still need to demonstrate a degree of accuracy to win. Two pawns, assuming his next...
