After many evaluations swings between white win and draw Shreyas gets his half.
Tenacious defence by Shreyas, but our new top board is in danger of getting a reputation for throwing away straightforward wins.

Thought it was going to be 5 decisive games but Shreyas looks likely to get an at-one-time unlikely draw.
Vitiugov is still trying to win.

Re: London Chess Classic 2023

Stroke of luck there, but a reminder of why Moussard should have been a 2700 player for years but isn't.

Re: London Chess Classic 2023

According to the kindergarten Stockfish, Adams and Niemann are both in trouble. Not sure I believe that, might be a bit more worried about Royal and McShane.

Inspecting the ECF LMS I'm struggling to find an entry for the Chiltern League
Why would you? They use Oxford Fusion.

Re: London Chess Classic 2023

My guess is that Mickey was weary after playing tough games on five successive days and was content to go into the rest day on +2. Of course there must be a way to win, but had there been a simple one ( even by 2700 standards ) I'm sure he would have played it.

Re: Carlsen resigns on move 2

''We have some indications, but we don't know if anyone wants to report him.'' I'm no legal expert but I suspect that's defamatory enough for HN to take legal action. What are the indications? I took this to mean that they don't know if anyone wants to report him, but there are indications that som...

Niemann drew? But how is this possible?
I'm guessing that it was a game of suspiciously high accuracy. Absolutely nothing happened.

Re: ECF meeting reports

Am I right in thinking that the typical rated restricted congress that I may enter (I am 1550 rated) will now be FIDE rated as well as ECF rated. They can cease to be Open by banning players FIDE rated above 2400 Given that the question related specifically to rating restricted congresses, that wou...

We shall have to wait and see, but at least one of the obstacles will have been removed.

Re: Very long games in weekend tournaments

Peter has been doing similar things in evening league games too. I was an early victim. I was required to find a large number of non-losing moves at ten seconds a go, not helped by the running and bad tempered triangular argument taking place across the board between the venue controller, the caret...

Re: The Gender Equality in Chess Index (GECI)

I am not arguing with what they measured I am, I think it is nonsense. It appear that if you wish to be at the top of the table you need to do the following things. Participation. Submit very few tournaments for FIDE rating, being sure to include any you can find with strong female participation. T...

Re: Chess history trivia

Are you in favour of less? I have no informed opinion. I was just making the rather obvious point that the opinions of these people, while very well informed, might contain an inbuilt bias. If I were to wish to reproduce the work of a deceased author ( which I don't ), how would I find out who owne...
