Re: Carlsen resigns on move 2
''We have some indications, but we don't know if anyone wants to report him.'' I'm no legal expert but I suspect that's defamatory enough for HN to take legal action. What are the indications? I took this to mean that they don't know if anyone wants to report him, but there are indications that som...

Re: London Chess Classic 2023
I'm guessing that it was a game of suspiciously high accuracy. Absolutely nothing happened.

Re: ECF meeting reports
Am I right in thinking that the typical rated restricted congress that I may enter (I am 1550 rated) will now be FIDE rated as well as ECF rated. They can cease to be Open by banning players FIDE rated above 2400 Given that the question related specifically to rating restricted congresses, that wou...

We shall have to wait and see, but at least one of the obstacles will have been removed.David Blower wrote: ↑Fri Dec 01, 2023 4:10 amAm I right in thinking that the typical rated restricted congress that I may enter (I am 1550 rated) will now be FIDE rated as well as ECF rated.

Re: London Chess Classic 2023
Sokolov should be concerned more with his own accuracy.

Re: Very long games in weekend tournaments
Peter has been doing similar things in evening league games too. I was an early victim. I was required to find a large number of non-losing moves at ten seconds a go, not helped by the running and bad tempered triangular argument taking place across the board between the venue controller, the caret...

Re: The Gender Equality in Chess Index (GECI)
I am not arguing with what they measured I am, I think it is nonsense. It appear that if you wish to be at the top of the table you need to do the following things. Participation. Submit very few tournaments for FIDE rating, being sure to include any you can find with strong female participation. T...

Re: Chess history trivia
Are you in favour of less? I have no informed opinion. I was just making the rather obvious point that the opinions of these people, while very well informed, might contain an inbuilt bias. If I were to wish to reproduce the work of a deceased author ( which I don't ), how would I find out who owne...

Re: Chess history trivia
From https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Society_of_Authors Well known contemporary members include Philip Pullman (SoA president from 2013 to March 2022), Malorie Blackman, Neil Gaiman, Philip Gross, Judith Kerr, Hilary Mantel, J. K. Rowling and Lemn Sissay. A splendid group no doubt, but it may not com...

Re: Annoying line in the Caro kahn
I think the Caro nowadays is considered far from anti-chess. Compare it to facing the Berlin, Petroff etc There's also no easy way out for white, no symmetrical exchange variation etc so plenty of play in all the variations. Well surely there is something like that (ie 3 ed5 cd5 4 some move other t...

Re: "Resetting" my rapid rating
Another solution not requiring giving up a form of chess would be to lobby for a change of rules or attitude among local league and club organisers so that he can be selected for teams regardless of an historic and low rapidplay rating. I can see nothing in the Shropshire rules about that, so presu...
