That would be some task, but in any case I doubt that chess.com would follow this forum's helpful lead of censoring any subsequent references to it.

Re: Chess Covid regulations poll

Ah, another academic who relies upon her funding from China. I realise that this will get me labelled here as some kind of a racist, but I am not convinced that the Chinese Communist Party has my best interests at heart.

Grischuk - Duda is interesting. After 24...Qf4 the machine says Black is better, but I would be a bit frightened.

Including the 'classical' game, I make that six variants on 'castling rights', is that correct?
Sixteen I think. Each of the four rooks can be "on" or "off".

Re: Direct Members’ Representatives – elections

The deadline for voting is 25th July. I received an email from membership@englishchess.org on 7th July with a link to the voting form, and have just unearthed it with some effort. I hope that there will be a reminder before the polls close. I have noticed a reminder on the ECF website, but I don't ...

Re: 'No castling' variant

If theory was the primary concern, they would just play Chess960 (Fisher random). I don't think so. Kramnik is challenging all assumptions, and one of those is that 960 is the only approach which removes the modern game's dependence on theory. It would be a fascinating experiment, which obviously w...

Re: 'No castling' variant

To Christopher's original question: it's because this variant is deemed to result in less draws as the kings are more exposed and entice players to go for nice attacks. As an additional bonus, it doesn't have centuries of theory and decades of computer analysis behind it. I would have put the motiv...

No mention of his Latvian Gambit book!
I was always surprised that he didn't play it more often himself.

Re: Start Date of Next Lockdown?

Yes, but how is this germane to the current thread? It wasn't me who introduced the idea, but actually I think it is germane. More people are getting their second jab all the time ( even if first jabs are stalling ), so if double vaccination does generally keep you out of an ICU bed, that is clearl...

What we need to model is when the wave the top out and at what level.
Modelling the future is easier if you have some idea where you are now.

Arguing over whether it is 40,50 or 60 % now is irrelevant
As above, it is 40 minus B, so the "argument" is whether it is 30, 20 or 10%.

Re: Start Date of Next Lockdown?

I'm not sure why vaccination status is relevant to ICU bed occupancy. It is part of the campaign to convince us that full vaccination does not offer protection against serious illness if you are otherwise in good health. I suspect this is generally untrue, but either way it is important and data sh...

Re: Start Date of Next Lockdown?

Let's put this in the scientific terms which Matthew prefers. A = Percentage of hospitalisations double vaccinated. B = Percentage of hospitalisations single vaccinated. C = Percentage of hospitalisations unvaccinated. Vallance claimed that A=60. This was untrue, on this occasion he was caught and h...
