Re: COVid19-What's wrong with UK?

Nick Faulks wrote; 'Why would I not prefer to live in a country whose vaccination program has failed? Or is it that other governments, such as the Iranians', are by nature less repressive than ours.' John Moore has cited evidence that the Iranians are more repressive. Then there must be another rea...

As you are obviously aware, I never said that. I asked why Iranian citizens are allowed to play chess and we aren't. If you had an answer I assume you would have supplied it.

Re: COVid19-What's wrong with UK?

Nick, your last sentence is nonsense, isn't it - or do you want me to quote Amnesty International on Iran. I do not doubt that the Iranian government is unpleasant in many respects, but they are at least allowing their people to play chess. Our Government does not even permit that. The Iranian gove...

Re: COVid19-What's wrong with UK?

I wasn't aware of the national championships taking place. Thanks for that information That isn't sufficient to justify describing Iran as less repressive than the UK. There is a difference between hyperbole and nonsense. I'm evidence based. They're playing chess, we're not. Of course there are way...

I have seen no reports that Iran permits the playing of chess at present.
FIDE rated OTB events, including their national championships, are currently taking place. I assume you mean, apart from those.

For clarity, I would watch any chess themed movie with Roddy McDowall in it. Or any ape themed movie with Roddy mcDowall in it. Or any movie at all in which apes play chess.

Re: COVid19-What's wrong with UK?

His dismissal of the present PM with a single four letter expletive is entertaining, though. Hardly original, not worth buying the book for. The truth is that Alan Duncan was never going to be of any signifcance and he is the only person who cannot see why that was. Perhaps Clark wasn't either, but...

Re: COVid19-What's wrong with UK?

Based on the excerpts we have seen, Duncan would seem to be a lightweight version of Clark. There should be more to political diaries than repetitiously saying things along the lines of "the PM really is terribly dim".

Re: Cheating in chess

I think it's just some guy with a slightly addled personality, made worse by being locked down for a year, and he's taken to drink.

No harm done
Unless the child concludes, as some have, that chess appears to be a game concerned primarily with accusations of cheating and is better avoided altogether.

Ah. Is this the new term, alongside "anti-vaxxer" and "Covid denier" with which to besmirch anyone who dares to wonder aloud whether we are possibly being fed a pack of lies by politicised and self-interested "scientists"?

Still, I find Lichess' attitude to the subject to be too self-congratulatory to be healthy.

I HOPE no taking children out of school with fines. HOPE meets travel rules - local. NO holiday is allowed.
A curious post, given that the event is during the school holidays.
