St Petersburg 1914 For the record: [Event "Manchester vs Liverpoo...

Re: ECF meeting reports

The next meeting of the ECF Council is not until April, if that's what you mean by "next meeting". It's supposed to be a Finance meeting and it can be difficult to get other matters discussed. Disputes at Director's Board meetings are usually kept under wraps with little more than a hint in the Min...

Re: ECF meeting reports

I think the ECF Director of International Chess and External Relations (!) should perhaps not be publicly endorsing a person now being investigated for incitement to riot. As for the use of 'feckin'... Questionable judgment but not a hanging offence. Will those questions be put at the next meeting?

As much as I dislike his politics, Leo Varadkar, is Gay, a person of colour and the child of an immigrant. The real reasons, in my opinion, why Conor McGregor hates him so much. Conor McGregor also recently quote tweeted Paul Golding, the leader of the fascist Britain First group. As for McGregor's ...

Re: ECF meeting reports

At the next meeting, could you ask our Director of International Chess and External Relations why he has been retweeting, and praising the notorious violent thug Conor McGregor - who has a history of racism, homophobia and islamophobia - and who has recently been inciting racist violence in Dublin. ...

Re: Chess history trivia

From https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Society_of_Authors Well known contemporary members include Philip Pullman (SoA president from 2013 to March 2022), Malorie Blackman, Neil Gaiman, Philip Gross, Judith Kerr, Hilary Mantel, J. K. Rowling and Lemn Sissay. A splendid group no doubt, but it may not com...

Re: Chess history trivia

I'm sure there are plenty of burglars in the vicinity of Mr McCready's home who also find property laws 'whimsical'. I hope that doesn't stop him locking his doors and windows.

Re: Chess history trivia

The two volumes of 'Chess Characters: Reminiscences of a Badmaster' were published by 'Chess Notes, Geneva, 1984'. Wikipedia also gives: Geoffrey Harber Diggle (6 December 1902 – 13 February 1993) So they were published during the lifetime of the author. I'm sure Diggle would have had something to s...

Attention. A new question. Google at the ready:

The Dundee 1867 tournament was attended by Steinitz, De Vere, Blackburne and others. But who represented the Midlands?
Spens, Robertson and Dr J. C. Fraser all represented the Scottish Midlands
