Re: Ancestry

The name Plunkett has a rich history See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plunkett Apparently Variants of the name Plunkett include Plunket, Plucknett and Plunkitt. This name is of French origin, being a corruption of the word 'blanchet', meaning 'white', and was introduced to Ireland at the time of t...

Re: (Chess) Life Returning To Normal

ECF newsletter: Given current circumstances it seems highly unlikely that we will be able to run an OTB British in Torquay this August, and we are looking at carrying the venue booking forward to 2022. We will confirm the postponement/deferral in the next couple of weeks. good to hear and people sa...

Hopefully there will be some updates providing information about Lancashire Chess Association's plans for 2021. i would be interested in seeing something from the LCA? I ha...

Re: Should the ECF try to organise more chess?

The usual expectation is that the British takes place during the school holiday period. Maybe its time to move forward ....& move away from the rather old fashioned, holding the Championship's during the "Summer Academic Break". So when would you hold the British, or do you do a US style event?

Re: ECF AGM 17/10/20

I was opposed to the members representatives proposal on the grounds that it was too restrictive. Generally bronze, silver and gold relate to a certain `type` of player but some members do have to move to a higher category (I'm a case in point here as playing in the rated sections of the British is...

Re: ECF AGM 17/10/20

The first was defeated 127 to 99, according to the proposer (who tells me the NCCU proposal lost 182 to 68) My Motion did not pass, however i will hope to come back with a amend version in the future and might asked someone to help me as 99 for and 127 against, and i will try and talk to the people...
