One curiosity was that there was a separate women's prize fund of £750, yet only 4 females entered the congress.
Perhaps this will improve next year.

For 2015 more space will be available for the Open to ensure maximum comfort (either at the new venue or back at the Civic Centre).

All Open games are uploaded.

Most of the games from the Open are now on the website. Link above.

The results of all sections have been uploaded onto the website. http://www.southendchessclub.co.uk/ use the congress link on the left hand side. The games from the open will also appear here in the near future. Congratulations to the winners and thanks to all who participated. This was a difficult ...

The entry form has been uploaded to the ECF calendar.
Printed forms will be distributed in the near future.

Early notification that the traditional Southend Easter Congress will be running again in 2014. The dates are 18th to 21st April 2014. We envisage a similar format and prize fund to last year (approx £6000). Our sponsor is also hoping to attract more female entrants by way of a generous prize fund....

Games from the Open are now available.

Final reminder for the Southend Easter Congress; Entries postmarked today, 18th March, will avoid late fees.

See above if you want to download an entry form from the congress website.

A couple of things;

The deadline for late entries is 18th March, so you can save yourselves a few quid by entering soon.

A list of entries is now provided on the Southend Chess Club website;

Some DGT clocks have a buzzer function.

On the same day one of the lower boards also agreed a draw before move 30, but was made to resume the game. The same thing happened in a game in this event last year.
Different rules for the top seeds, it seems.

Entry form now attached.

A copy of the entry form will also soon be available via the club website;
