Didn't Korchnoi beat a very young Carlsen by entering one move twice on his score sheet? The time control was 40 moves. Korchnoi (White) entered his 39th move in the space for his 40th move. I'm not up to date on equality law but I thought positive discrimination was allowed to encourage greater participation by those currently under represented in an activity. If that’s right, couldn’t the 4NCL simply require each Division one team to include at least one female player?

Perhaps White's 14th move should have read P to KR4

Sorry to learn of the passing of one of my favourite arbiters. Met him many times at events such as Paignton, Dorset and Torbay. He had a wry sense of humour and, unlike some school teacher arbiters, avoided speaking to adults as though they were children. The photo shows Ewart awaiting game results...
