Re: Pencils at Polling Stations

Sadly, I haven't seen footage of the Chessington South Council election where there were 13 MRLP candidates Brings to mind the Monty Python election sketch - "That's going to split the Silly vote!" Would that have something to do with the North Minehead by-election, feat. Adolf Hilter? It is a diff...

Re: Media comments on chess

She made it to the front cover of chess magazine. I assume her promotion is an attempt by Keir Starmer to slow down team Burnham

Re: Northumbria Masters, 26-30 August, 2021

The example that is usually quoted is advertising a job with a requirement for an HGV license. If this is an 'office job' then this would be consider discriminatory because very few women have an HGV license. However, you can clearly advertise a job that requires an HGV license because it is releva...

Re: Northumbria Masters, 26-30 August, 2021

I was still under the impression that the law hasn’t been changed yet to demand vaccination status as a means of entry, and by doing so can be construed as discriminatory What makes you think the law needs to be changed for this purpose? My understanding is that discrimination is lawful as long as ...

Re: Carlsen's ranking of world champions

Alistair,
Thinking about it there is a way to get to your formulation, by placing 2 balls in slots and thinking about the possibilities. So balls in slots A and B gives 4 left, A and C, 3 left and so on.

Re: Carlsen's ranking of world champions

So, if you haven't come across the ideas before you should be able to work it out logically. There are 6 places to put the first golf ball then there are five slots left for the second and four for the third. So that gives you 120 possibilities. However, with identical golf balls then you soon real...

Re: Carlsen's ranking of world champions

The student stared into space for about 5 seconds and replied 20. I asked how they had worked it out and the reply came back "I have no idea". I expect they did have some idea, as I would have had at that age. It is obviously 6.5.4/3.2.1, and if you have to be taught that you are not any kind of a ...

Re: May 2021 ECF Rating List

If you click on player 4 then it gives his result against player 1
The crosstable doesn't show all the results submitted. I think the crosstable should be a partial all-play-all, but it shows as a Swiss and that doesn't work.

Re: May 2021 ECF Rating List

Wadih,
I think there aren't set round times so in their first game player 1 might play player 2, but in player 3's first game they might also play player 2
That makes the crosstable hyper-ventilate, but I think all the results are there somewhere.
