Re: JM Soesan Coincidence

I was lucky enough today to receive " A Century of British Chess " by PW Sergeant (1934) courtesy of Tony Peterson. There was an internal attachment with Ex libris J.M.Soesan who I think is the Ilford player Joseph Soesan. Not very interesting you might think until I recalled I have BCM bound volum...

Re: Premier League Fantasy Football 2020-21

Week 25 "Now we can go all-in in the league and FA Cup." Brendan Rodgers explains Leicester's exit from the Europa League. It was another high scoring week (eventually) with teams approaching, but not breaking, the 100 point barrier. Week 26 might be different. The top five teams are unchanged from...

Re: Levon Aronian statement

If Lev Aronian wants to move to earn more money well good luck to him. Put that into context against footballers see https://wageindicator.co.uk/pay/vip-celebrity-salary/sports-football-players . Messi £465,000 a day? Even Premier Division reserves like Phil Jagielka are on £10,000 a day. Am I parti...

My recollection was that it was Matthew Sadler on "You Bet" rather than Michael Adams.

Re: 4NCL On-Line Season 3

One of the considerations if there is 4NCL otb chess played over the summer is ECF membership. If 4NCL restarts in the summer prospective team players will not want to cough up an extra £39.00 for two or three games at gold membership levels. I recall that in 4NCL On-Line Season 2 anyone who played...

Re: 4NCL On-Line Season 3

One of the considerations if there is 4NCL otb chess played over the summer is ECF membership. The ECF rating system gives a monthly update and what that shows is that there has been no otb chess played since March 2020 with minimal exceptions. In a totally unscientific sample I looked at rated play...

Re: Media comments on chess

After football comes tennis................ https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/tennis/56137220 If 33-year-old Djokovic is to win his 18th major, he says he will have to solve the puzzles set by "master chess player" Medvedev. "I'm ready for the battle for the toughest match of the tournament, without a dou...

Re: Media comments on chess

"It's still like a chess match" Karen Carney on BT Sport commenting on Benfica-Arsenal remaining at 0-0. In the BT highlights show later one of the presenters suggested that Leicester City would "turn stalemate into checkmate" when teams returned to the King Power stadium. I didn't feel a 'phone ca...

Re: Premier League Fantasy Football 2020-21

Week 24 Why would we not enjoy being in the position we’re in? David Moyes At about 5.00pm on Sunday I was confident of hitting the 100 point mark but at that point everything started to go wrong culminating in Wednesday's fixtures where Manchester City changed their line-up again and conceded an e...

The Star Trophy was presented by a newspaper, that had nothing to do with the current one!
No doubt if they provided a trophy it would be topless.

Re: 4NCL On-Line Season 3

As I was indisposed I am not sure exactly from which divisions teams dropped out between seasons 2 and 3, and I'm too lazy to try to work it out now. However, I do know that between seasons 1 and 2 teams were dropping out from all divisions. (I expect that might have stabalised a bit.) I appreciate...

Re: 4NCL On-Line Season 3

This conveniently brings me to the question of promotion and relegation. 40 teams might have been anticipating relegation according to the spreadsheet of 06 January; six have withdrawn and disappeared leaving 34 expecting to go down. In fact no teams at all have suffered this fate; all 34 sides rem...

We don't see Cyril, Stan, or Obidiah anymore.
I'm sorry to disappoint you but my youngest grandson (the one mentioned earlier who isn't Plunkett :) ) who is four has a best friend called Stanley. Stanley's little brother who is two this month is Freddie.

Re: British Championship Congress 2021

How do you propose the ECF gets insurance cover for the event? I am afraid this is way above my knowledge and competencies. My sentence should have read "would it be possible" rather than "can't they". Maybe checking how events were insured with in other countries? This is purely hypothetical anyho...
