Re: Hansen on Nakamura

Naka tried to take a (losing) move back a few years ago, didn't he?

That probably didn't go down well with many of his peers, now that you mention it.

Re: Hansen on Nakamura

I didn't name them since it is only whispers, but more than one person has said this.

Though some players fall into the Korchnoi/Miles category - not always easy to get on with, but usually fine as long as you don't upset them.

Outright a***holes do exist, but are thankfully not common.

The magazine switched to a "new look" in the early 80s, not sure if that involved a new process but it may have done.

Re: Hansen on Nakamura

And how many share Hansen's assessment of said individual - even if only semi-publicly?

You do hear on the grapevine that certain players have a "reputation".

(for instance, I have seen it claimed more than once that a certain top - and young - English GM isn't exactly Mr Popular)

I note that some late-70s issues of Chess were printed "out of house" - I wonder if that was industrial dispute related.

Re: Interesting finish to a game

Interesting that bringing the BK closer to White's (after forcing it to b8) doesn't win, presumably White can use their B to stop that working?

Re: Remembering BH Wood MSc FCS OBE (13-vii-1909 04-iv-1989)

Morry got his letters published in Chess come the 1970s/early 80s, so it seems pretty likely there was some sort of reconciliation between them.

BHW wrote about chess for the Telegraph for years and its fair to say he was a good fit with them politically speaking.

Yep, surely no reason why the "old" grading site can't continue to exist in archive form for the foreseeable future?

Re: Laws of Chess - changes

The amusing one is king and bishop versus king and bishop. If they're same-coloured bishops, over-stepping the time control results in a draw. Except that it's not possible to over-step the time control with that material. As soon as the K + same-coloured bishop vs. K + same-coloured bishop positio...
