Re: Media comments on chess

Without wishing to dampen others' enthusiasm, and while acknowledging that there are some interesting posts on this thread which it's worth taking on board, I wonder whether it's absolutely necessary to report here every time a football manager or similar says "It was like a game of chess out there...

Re: 1993 Short V Kasparov Archives

While you had E4 churning out BIG BROTHER 24/7 Therein lies the challenge - persuading TV companies that chess programmes would be more attractive to viewers than Big Brother. Good luck with convincing them that viewers would like to see some guaranteed pawn instead of the possibility of some late ...

Re: 1993 Short V Kasparov Archives

With that many channels out there now it would be possible to have some coverage. Things like the RED BUTTON for example.

Re: 1993 Short V Kasparov Archives

Yea Peter Snow was really good. I think that was the BBC version that didn't show any footage but had a nicer graphic of the chess board.

Re: Clock Bangers

Like I said, I think the analogue ones are accurate enough and are the same for both people. Definitely not guaranteed to be so. They consist of two separate clocks so it's quite likely they won't be equally inaccurate. It's also possible one will be running fast and the other one slow. If those tw...

Re: Clock Bangers

So you mean increment stop things like that happening? My point was about using digital clocks when there are no increments. I do agree, and actually quite like, increments on the clock. Fair enough. I guess the only advantage of using digital clocks without increments is the fact that they are mor...

Re: Clock Bangers

So you believe it is preferable for someone to win by moving faster than their opponent, rather than by making better moves? What do you mean? Both things are part of the game regardless of the type of clock used. :( Surely it was accepted decades ago that winning on time in a quickplay finish from...
