Re: The 4th Derbyshire Chess Congress, 17th &18th Oct.

Some people have had a few problems paying via PayPal. (I know this company isn't everyone's favourite cup of tea!) Accordingly, I have tweaked the wording on the website to allow people to pay via bank transfer as a last resort. The reason it's not something I encourage is that payment via PayPal m...

Re: The 4th Derbyshire Chess Congress, 17th &18th Oct.

I went to the Leyland Congress recently, and, although I had taken quite a few snacks with me, I realised that when it came to lunchtime in particular, if I didn't have time to go off-site, what I wanted most was a small pack of sandwiches (like you get in a supermarket meal deal). Accordingly, this...

Re: The 4th Derbyshire Chess Congress, 17th &18th Oct.

Here's a quick update on some information which is on older versions of the flyer. In the older version, it states: "The ECF Oct. 2026 OTB ratings will be used to determine eligibility for rating-restricted sections, and for pairings and rating prize purposes." After discussion with various people, ...

Re: White Rose Chess Circuit

Is there a list of entrants for this weekend's Huddersfield Congress anywhere online, please?
TIA, David Woodhouse.

The 4th Derbyshire Chess Congress, 17th &18th Oct.

I am delighted to announce that this year's congress will be held on the 17th and 18th of October this year. Although the date is another new one, (half term), the venue is the same - Trent College, Long Eaton NG10 4AD. I know it's early, but ENTRIES ARE NOW OPEN! The website is at https://congress....

Re: The 3rd Derbyshire Chess Congress 20th & 21st Sept. 2025

This is just a reminder that there are still plenty of spaces left (at the moment!) for the congress on the 20th & 21st of this month. With FIVE rating sections, the boundaries are not so wide as to be daunting for those nearer the bottom of a section. The Open and Major sections are currently looki...

Re: The 3rd Derbyshire Chess Congress 20th & 21st Sept. 2025

Following the ECF's revised pay-to-play fees for bronze-level participants, I have tweaked the online entry information and the congress flyer to reflect this. The website can be found at: https://congress.org.uk/congress/570/home as before, but if anyone needs to contact me via email about the cong...

The 3rd Derbyshire Chess Congress 20th & 21st Sept. 2025

I am pleased to announce that this year's congress will be held on the 20th and 21st of September this year. Please note that we have returned to our preferred weekend in September, and we are confident that this will be the case in future years. However, the venue is the same - Trent College, Long ...

Re: The 2nd Derbyshire Chess Congress 23rd & 24th Nov 2024

Dear All, Many thanks to those of you who braved the weather and took part at the weekend. We had 151 entries in the end which was slightly up on last year, so thanks for that. It was encouraging once again to receive lots of positive feedback. Many congratulations must go to 14 year-old Kajus Mikal...

Re: The 2nd Derbyshire Chess Congress 23rd & 24th Nov 2024

As is often the case, entries are coming in a little faster as we approach the congress, so thank you for that. There is still quite a bit of room for more, especially in the Foundation Section where the top rating is set encouragingly low, at below 1350. If you are relatively new to competitive che...

Re: The 2nd Derbyshire Chess Congress 23rd & 24th Nov 2024

Following up on Roger's comment about the Best Western Hotel not being available, I've done some recent checking and it is still closed, but the other two are open. A Google search will probably find others reasonably nearby, but these two seem the nearest for those of you requiring accommodation. I...

Re: The 2nd Derbyshire Chess Congress 23rd & 24th Nov 2024

Many thanks to those of you who have already entered this year's congress. Entries are trickling in nicely at this stage, and it looks as though numbers will be up slightly on last year which is encouraging. In case you hadn't entered before, (i.e.last year), and didn't know where the venue was, if ...

Re: The 2nd Derbyshire Chess Congress 23rd & 24th Nov 2024

Dear All, Following the ECF's decision to merge silver and gold memberships, I have had to revise the extra amount bronze members will need to pay if they wish to participate in this year's congress. I have therefore rejigged the flyer accordingly. The new version of the downloadable flyer is now on...

Re: The 2nd Derbyshire Chess Congress 23rd & 24th Nov 2024

Hi Roger, Yes, having read your message I did a bit of digging and it appears that it may be being used for asylum seekers at the moment. The situation may change; I'll keep an eye on it. In the meantime, I've checked that the other two hotels mentioned on the flyer are still taking bookings. Thank ...
