Re: The Gender Equality in Chess Index (GECI)
Looking beyond the tables there were some interesting information in the report which people may or may not agree with, but most of these seem sensible and probably deserve more focus than the tables? The first theme was the representation of women in leadership and executive roles in the federation...

Re: Living in the Past: The Chiltern League
Quick update, played in the Chiltern League yesterday and results have been submitted today to the ECF and are waiting to go into November's rating. The Sept 23 Hampshire - Berkshire has also been submitted. Not sure if change of process on the rating to be submitted sooner, but this is good to see....

Re: J M Craddock - King Edward's School, Birmingham?
Does anyone know exactly which counties he played for? From the HCA records he played for Surrey and Berkshire, although a big gap between the two (I am assuming these are the same player?). The 1940's and 50's are ones where match records are sparse though. The Berkshire ones would have been taken...

Re: West of England Congress
Not sure you are correct with your comments. I've played many times over the last 30 years and from memory it was two games on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday and one game on the Monday. 4 days tournament not five I'm going back 40 years. In 1981 it was 5 days from Thursday to Monday, with 2 games on ...

Re: Living in the Past: The Chiltern League
When making the Mickey Mouse slur, John didn't quote a FIDE master or anyone else, but offered it as his own opinion. It has been rightly objected to, coming, as it does, from an officer of the Berkshire Chess Association. As for stronger CL players, John could have mentioned an example closer to h...

Re: Living in the Past: The Chiltern League
I was noticeable last season that games were not rated that quickly, but maybe this is something which the CL will consider changing, although the ins and outs of this is not something I have ever been involved in. The results were sent to me by the HCA Match Captain and as I list all the County Res...

Re: What have the ECF ever done for us!
That is very good point Paul and as Jack says I don't think there is anything stopping someone playing in the tournament with no rating. Our club has a lot of lower rated players (13 between 1000 and 1300 and we have two teams in the bottom division) and therefore most players do manage results. If ...

What have the ECF ever done for us!
Ok, this is not a serious post, but there has been a lot of negativity on the ECF and so I thought I would look at a couple of things which I think are pretty impressive. ECF Rating Site A few players don't take that much interest in their rating, but a large percentage of players do (yes, i am one ...

Simon Williams and Jovanka Houska back doing the commentary today. Nothing against the other commentators but I enjoy this pairing. Although best to mute the chat.

Re: British Championship 2023
A thought that occurred to me today: with Max Pert playing as a filler, there were four members of the same family playing in the British Championship today; has that happened before? It strikes me as a shame that Max was not playing in the championships in any event, but there it is (of course har...

Re: British Championship 2023
A very impressive tournament from Steven Jones. I've felt he was 100 points underrated for a long time, the effect of playing a lot of weaker opponents in opens. But perhaps I was underestimating it. Inactive as I am, I have not met him, though had also noted him as being a dangerous player with wh...
