Is it known how deep Sindarov knew the line or was he just making it up as he went along?
In the press conference he said that Ne4 was the correct move instead of h4 and that after Ne4 Qa5+ b4 as well as Nxb4 Black can also consider Qd8.

Apparently he had prepped the line for the World Cup.

Re: Kramnik v Navara

Geneva, Switzerland

I don’t know exactly what statement Navara is accused of making - if anyone has been defamed in this affair however it looks to me more likely that Kramnik has defamed Navara than the other way round.

I don’t think Li has played enough titled opponents.
No, he's fine there.
Yes, for some reason I thought he had to play 6 titled opponents.

Re: Cambridge Open 2025

Any norm opportunities? Does Mahadevan need a draw for a GM norm? Anyone else with a chance of a norm? You can view the player performances here: https://chess-results.com/tnr1099723.aspx?lan=1&art=1&rd=8&turdet=YES&flag=30 Rounding up the lowest rated player to 2200 for GM norms & 2050 for IM norm...

Re: Cambridge Open 2025

Last year, Rafe Martyn started as the local hero, drawing with Adams and in round four (I think) beating Roberson. This year it is Liam Varnam, conqueror of an FM and a 2400 rated IM in the first two rounds. Continuing his excellent form from the final 4NCL weekend. Next up, board 2 against Mickey ...

Re: Roquetas Chess Festival 2025

I’m not sure why Harry Grieve’s opponent offered a draw as she was an exchange up but the draw almost certainly ensures Matthew will be paired with someone rated high enough to enable him to secure his third and final GM norm with a draw. (She was the only player under 2266 within a point of Matthew...

Re: Hastings 2024-25

I will check these tomorrow but ( very ) provisionally Xue plays tomorrow for IM norm and draws for GM norm Vestdy-Ellingsen win for GM norm Grutter and Gordon wins for IM norm. Xue was successful, but the others missed out. I think the two IM norm seekers have all their norms though and only need ...

I will check these tomorrow but ( very ) provisionally Xue plays tomorrow for IM norm and draws for GM norm Vestdy-Ellingsen win for GM norm Grutter and Gordon wins for IM norm. According to the FIDE website Xue already has two IM norms from July (Benasque and Biel) and already has the rating so if...

Re: 2024 Olympiad

The Palestine female board 1, Eman Sawan, is now on 7/7. Good stuff. Any realistic chances of her facing the two WIMs she needs to get a norm? Palestine women have been paired against Venezuela whose top two boards are WIMs so she should get one of them in the next round. Or she would if she had pl...
