I must echo the poster in another thread who wonders why there is no announcement yet about our teams in the European team chs. The teams have been selected, after all. But for some reason we must go to the tournament website itself in order to find out who is representing us.
Not, you understand, that I am particularly bothered to discuss the various selections - but it is always interesting to see the official press release which gives reasons why some players are missing, and some details of the achievements of those who are playing.

Jonathan is absolutely right. Both the England men's and women's teams for the European team championship have been named, are published on a non-English site, yet the ECF has been totally silent. This never occurs in other serious sports and, for starters, it seems an implicit ECF responsibility given the government grant.
Similarly in junior selections there has been no announcement by the ECF office, by Peter Purland or by Andrew Martin of the names of those representing England in next month's World Junior Championship at Mar del Plata, Argentina, (even though David Howell's name, together with Nigel Short's name as second, has been published elsewhere) or in the forthcoming World Youth Championships.
I think this state of affairs is quite unacceptable to the chess public and to the chess media. I ask Chris Major, John Philpott and any others who read this forum with influence on the ECF to take this up and correct it as a matter of urgency.

You post here Leonard should be sufficient to kick the ECF site and it's webmaster into gearLeonard Barden wrote:I think this state of affairs is quite unacceptable to the chess public and to the chess media. If there is any implicit criticism here of the webmaster I think that it is uncalled for. I have found him extremely efficient in turning round in short order requests to upload or amend documents. If something is missing that should be on the website, the problem is more likely to be that the relevant ECF Officer has not yet passed the information to the webmaster. You post here Leonard should be sufficient to kick the ECF site and it's webmaster into gear

Sorry yes I could have worded it better, it was "meant" to ackowledge the fact that I know the ECF office browse this site even if it is considered a no-go areaJohn Philpott wrote:Carl Hibbard wroteIf there is any implicit criticism here of the webmaster I think that it is uncalled for. I hope eventually that the ECF open up the CMS a little more to allow some of us (with the experience and sufficient level of trust...) to add things to the main site thus easing the load on the webmaster
We can but hope

The delay was certainly not down to the ECF webmaster. The ECF decided not to announce the teams until all players had confirmed and yesterday was the official deadline although the provisional team lists had to be sent in by 4th September. I only had the teams confirmed to me last night by the current International Director Stewart Reuben hence the hurried announcement that will appear on the ECF site today.
